2013 Book List

JANUARY

Our book for January 2013 is The Fish Can Sing, by Halldór Laxness. It is a "Mark M. Pick."

Menu: berry pie and jelly-filled pastries; homemade rye bread and butter and dill dip; deviled --not filled with tuna -- eggs; fish sticks and homemade tartar sauce; smoked salmon dip and crackers; cheese with prosciutto; chocolates and caramel; and nuts




FEBRUARY

Our book for February 2013 is The Prisoner of Heaven, by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It is a "Judy Pick."

Menu: croissants, both chocolate-filled and plain with jam; broiled mushroom bread with aioli; tortilla Espanola; tuna steak on crackers with orange mayonnaise and orange zest and rosemary; braised chorizo; ham and cheese (manchego and muenster) plate and crackers; olives; and nuts



MARCH

Our book for March 2013 is The Flamboya Tree, by Clara Olink Kelly. It is a "Sherry Pick." (discussed in May)

Menu: pork carne asada, with tortillas, salsa, and all the fixings; chicken enchilada won tons; strawberry pie; pretzels, nuts, sausages,and cheeses.





APRIL

Our book for April 2013 is The Whistling Season, by Ivan Doig. It is a "Pat M. Pick."


Menu: ginger cookies and strawberries with whipped cream; gingerbread; upside-down quiche; Williamsburg bread





MAY

Our book for May 2013 is Where'd You Go, Bernadette, by Maria Semple. It is a "Stacy Pick."

Menu: pork carne asada, with tortillas, salsa, and all the fixings; chicken enchilada won tons; strawberry pie; pretzels, nuts, sausages,and cheeses.



JULY

Our book for July 2013 is Armageddon in Retrospect, by Kurt Vonnegut. It is a "Pat K. Pick."

Menu: strawberry cake; rye bread; sauerbraten; orange poppyseed bread with fresh fruit; Armageddon Chicken; fried Kielbasa; German cheese and crackers; nuts





AUGUST

Our book for August 2013 is The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, by Dorothy Gilman. It is a "Mark F. Pick."

Menu: 5-layer bean dip and chips; homemade bread and olive tapenade; oatmeal-raisin cookies; egg rolls; taquitos; Albanian lamb (beef) and feta meatballs; goat cheese spread and crackers; chips, avocado dip, and salsa; and nuts




SEPTEMBER

Our book for September 2013 is Crossing to Safety, by Wallace Stegner. It is a "Mark M. Pick."

Menu: apple streusel; oatmeal raisin cookies; apples with caramel-toffee dip; pasta saltimbocca; sausage and cheese balls; turkey sandwiches; assorted cheeses



OCTOBER

Our book for October 2013 is The Last Runaway, by Tracy Chevalier. It is a "Judy Pick."

Menu: apple crisp; apples with pumpkin-maple dip; homemade grape juice; crackers and cheeses; chicken and southern gravy; and chicken corn chowder






NOVEMBER

Our book for November 2013 is Isaac's Storm, by Erik Larson. It is a "Sherry Pick."

Menu: razzleberry pie and whipped cream; fresh veggies and salsa dip; stewed beef chili with fresh cilantro; nut mix; shrimp ring and cocktail sauce; fresh shrimp ceviche and dipping chips
